Languages of USA
No official language is used in Unites States and most of the people speak English. English in United States is use as a native language and about 82% of population makes use of it. The variety of English that is used in United States is called as American English.
When American English is combined with Canadian English they form a group of dialects which is called as North American English. The highest number of people in United States speaks English well. Though, there are number of proposals of making English as a national language in amendments to the immigration reform bills but still no bills have been passed.
Additionally, Spanish is another commonly used language in the country which is used by 12% of the total population. The United States is fifth-largest country that holds highest numbers of Spanish speaking population after Spain, Mexico, Columbia and Argentina. As per the US census 2000, Germans are amongst the largest ethnic section in US and German language ranks fifth. Besides this, Russian is the language that is spoken by the immigrant population.
Vietnamese and Tagalog have over a million of speakers in the country of USA. In addition to this, there is also a smaller section of population that makes use of Native languages. However, this population is in the declining state and is not largely used outside reservation. Thus, apart from English, German, Spanish, Navajo, French as well as Native American languages are learned from the immigrant ancestors that came after independence.
